Tips for fixing a weak golf grip?

By

i just made the golf team, but my grip keeps getting weaker and im losing distance, plus the occasional shank. ive known that its too weak, but i cant seem to force myself to have a stronger grip. it doesn’t feel comfortable at all and im afraid to try it w/o having time to fix it. any drills/tips ect. to fix a weak grip? i have a full golf season, but i dont wanna screw everything up dramatically. thanks!

Really the only way to fix a weak grip is to make it stronger by rolling the knuckles on top of your hand down and to the right. With my grip, my thumb knuckle is right on the shaft line. maybe even a little behind it. It’s going to feel weird at first, but believe me, once you hit a bucket or two of balls at the range with it, you’ll feel right at home. you’ll instantly notice more distance.

Try this to start with. The vee formed by the forefinger and thumb should point to the right shoulder for a right hander. Left shoulder for a lefty.

You need to see a swing coach/instructor. The grip is the most important part of the set up in golf. Rolling your knuckles in the grip is only a cosmetic way of changing it. When determining a correct grip it is more about where the club sits in the fingers not where the knuckles sit on top of the shaft.
Given you are now on the golf team see a swing coach sort out your grip properly or your house of golf will be built on dodgie foundations. Good luck.

how about this….balance the club on a finger looking down the shaft toward the head. See how the head hangs at an angle ( its natural balance position) turn the toe up into a mirror position and put your thumb on top of the shaft. the face is square to about 10 o’clock and your left thumb is at 12 …..roll or rotate your forearms to the right to square the face to your target. this creates a slight tension in your arms that help you square the face at impact. (your left thumb is now at 2 o’clock at address) at the end of the backswing you should feel the weight of the club on your left thumb ( your key to knowing when to start the downswing) I suggest you get the book " Practical Golf" by John Jacobs….best golf book ever for understanding basics and how to train yourself. Until you get that book, practice with a broom, it will teach you how the clubface squares up.

you have no idea what is causing your problems, you are just assuming it is your grip. i have two words of advice for you:

    1. as Hogan told people looking for advice, go hit 10,000 balls, you will either learn how to fix it yourself or you will learn how to play with it.

    2. get lessons and find out what the problem actually is.

Twist your left hand clockwise to the right so you can see three knuckles on your left hand notice the v’s in both your hands are pointing to your right shoulder take an old glove and but dots on your first three knuckles next to the thumb which will be a visual aid so you dont slip back into a weak grip

Honestly, your question alludes to the idea that you really don’t know what a "weak grip" actually is – and as a result, either way, the only rational answer is that you should consult the teaching pro at your local course for some lessons to address whatever it is that ails you.
